The Brotherhood of the Brown Bottle Gaming Society

VOID 1.1

VOID is a SCI-FI skirmish produced by I-Kore/Urban Mammoth. It is a pretty decent game system with excellent miniatures. You can download the rules and Force Books for free at the I-Kore/Urban Mammoth website.

A good source for discussion about the game is the Void Forum at the MiniRealms website.

There is also a Void Forum at the I-Kore/Urban Mammoth website.

Brother's Steve, Don, Bob, Lukash, and Brush all have some miniatures and play occasionally.

You can see some images of some of the Brothers' Void miniatures here.
  • Brother Steve is working on a Syntha and VASA Army
  • Brother Bob has a Syntha army and is working on a Junkers army
  • Brother Don has a VASA army
  • Brother Lukash has a Viridian Army
  • Brother Brush has a custom made force using mostly Copplestone/Future Wars stuff

Custom Force Lists

Jouni Pohjola (tnjrp on the Minirealms Forum) of Turku Finland has created some spreadsheets that allow you to create custom force lists so you can use other miniatures with the Void rules. The zip file Void_resources.zip contains the Point Cost Calulator and the Converstion tools from other systems to Void files.

VOID 1.1. Points Cost Calculator
The file [VOID pcc.xls] implements the points costing system originally pioneered by Frode Drevland. The tool has been updated with info from all Force Books published for VOID 1.1. under i-Kore (ie. it includes all the skills, equipment etc.) and therefore produces reasonably compatible results with all the official forces currently available (as of September 16, 2004). Urban Mammoth reps have let on that the points costing system has undergone some changes (and it's about time too) which are likely to show up in the Koralon Force Book. This will technically invalidate this version of the tool. The pic [pcc example pic.jpg] is all the usage documentation available as of this time, but the system should be fairly self-evident if you are familiar with Microsoft Excel at all.

Conversion tools from other systems to VOID
There are in total 4 different tools for making rudimentary, base-line conversions from different miniature gaming systems to VOID: from Dark Age [DarkAge2Void.xls], Warhammer 40.000 3rd/4th edition [WHxk2Void.xls], Warzone 2nd edition [Warzone2Void.xls] and Vor: The Maelstrom [Vor2Void.xls]. They aren't meant to be the final definitive word on converting by any means (as if anyone was thinking they would be), but they should get you started. There are some examples of what kind of results the conversion tools produce in the corresponding Excel files ([DA2V Conversions.xls] for Dark Age, [WZ2VOID conversion.xls] for Warzone and [Vor2VOID conversions.xls] for Vor) and a more comprehensible, playable example, including points costs generated with VOID 1.1. PCC in [TAU4VOID.doc].

Commonwealth Force Book
This is a complete unofficial Force Book for VOID 1.1, created with the help of the aforementioned tools and compatible with official forces published by i-Kore up to and including the Junkers. Commonwealth as an army is a conversion from Warzone 2nd edition Imperial army, with several modifications and additions. Warzone miniatures are available from Excelsior Entertainment (http://www.excelsiorentertainment.com/).

Rules Stuff

Special Rules/Abilities
The Special Rules are not in the Rulebook that comes in the box game and some of them have changed from what was published in the Force Books. You can see the updated special rules in this thread from the Urban Mammoth/I-Kore Forums, or I've got them here in a PDF document.
Individuals and Units
Here is some clarification on characters added to units from Ben Brownlie. This comes from this post on the Mini-Realms Forum
When character types are stated as being allowed to be added to units "using the same buying criteria as Alphas/Decurions/Sergeants" it means:
-You may include a total of 0-1 characters in a unit*
-You may only include a character into a given unit if joining that unit type is specifically allowed in the characters force book entry
-You may still include the 0-1 Alpha/Decurion/Sergeant choice as normally available to the unit

With regards to model ratios
-The character counts towards the minimum/maximum unit size
-The character counts as a non support model for the purposes of the unit's support ratio.
-The character does still count as an individual for the purposes of maintaining a legal squad/individual ratio accross the army

With regards to rules/special rules/skills
-The character becomes a part of that unit in all respects of game play unless specified in any special rules elsewhere
-The character's squad may employ the character's leadership skills (such as High Morale/Tactical Awareness) where applicable as if the character were the squad's normal leader
-The character will convey any skill benefits to the unit as allowed in the skill descriptions (e.g. Immune to Panic) and, likewise, the character will benefit from any rules that the unit would normally convey to an individual that joins it as allowed in the skill descriptions (e.g. Immune to Panic). Please note that the inclusion of the character will also affect any skills that require the entire unit to have the skill if it doesn't (e.g. Stealth)

Any skills that benefit models without that skill and skills that categorically require the entire unit to have the skill all mention these criteria in their desriptions. An up to date list of the sklls can be found on the Urban Mammoth Forums

*The exception to the 0-1 rule is Junkers Centurions/Standards which can both be added to the same unit if they are of the same Legion
